Workplace Safety Posters
Although safety starts with the employee and it is their responsibility first to practice proper safety measures on a daily basis, it is definitely the duty of the employer to post workplace safety posters. These safety signs help inform people in the area of the potential hazards that exist there. Knowing the potential hazards of a work environment helps employees to prepare accordingly. This includes knowing where the appropriate safety equipment items are, such as safety eye goggles, and having them on hand and ready for specific workplace environments.
One of the most important safety posters that should be present in appropriate workplaces is one that warns employees of highly flammable or combustible areas and materials. These signs should be combined with nearby fire extinguishers and other relevant fire safety gear such as fire retardant blankets, fire hose installation ports and dually enforced sprinkler systems. The chemical safety sign should also be accompanied by a fire evacuation map of the building.
Other important safety signs to make sure are in place are chemical warning signs, which include specific indications as to whether the chemical hazard is toxic, flammable, corrosive, or explosive. Similarly, these signs should also be accompanied with relevant chemical safety gear and instructions on how to properly use it.
It’s also very important to note that certain areas of safety are often ignored, but even seemingly minor hazards should be indicated by relevant signs. A prime example of this is ergonomic safety signs that warn of body strain and potential areas of human error.
